A glitch in at least 10 LG television models is when showing Nine Network programs.
LG said it was notified of the issue three weeks ago, but is yet to discover its source. LG also couldn't say whether all or only some Nine programs were affected.
The models experiencing the glitch, according to LG, are: 32LC2D, 37LC2D, 42LC2D, 42LC2DR, 42PC1DV, 42PC1DG, 50PC1D, 50PC3D, 50PB2DR and 60PC1D.
Have you encountered freezing issues when trying to watch programs on Nine using an LG TV?
Yup.
Happened to me a couple of times. Had to unplug the power cord to get it back.
Only happens during in digital broadcast and channel 9.
I have other issues with my Plasma TV for which unsatifactory service from its authorised repair centre was provided. I am still waiting for them to return back to my home
And so far it seem to work.
The LG model that I have is 42PC1DV and my address is in Perth.
it's their crap macrovision copy protection.
and one more reason for me to give up on that channel: don't even bother anymore...
By the way, I'm in Newcastle. The local service centre couldn't offer any help. Since then I've told others who are in the market for a plasma - they don't choose LG.
I've given up on 9, I'm just using WIN now but even that froze up on me this afternoon.
I gave a mate my old Yess/Diginet SD PVR a few weeks ago and it picked up all channels including Nine here in Melb.
Last week arriving back in town he rang to tell me there is no sound on Nine.
I have rescanned and still no sound on Nine. (Located in Port Melb)
His old Conia SD STB had no problems recieving Nine.
When I used the Yess/Diginet PVR previously at my place Nine was always a problem getting a stable picture.
Which I put down to the antenna cable but his old Conia SD STB works perfectly here at my place on Nine.
I must stress also neither the STB/PVR nor the TV are LG but there is a problem with Nine and I would guess which is effecting some Digital recievers or maybe it is their Firmware.
Who knows?
???
???
???
..Only Syd/Mel?
?, I'm in Brisbane so I must've been caught in a cyclone
Pretty crap that they won't even advise customers directly when it's fixed.
Powered down for 1 hr to get the screen to work again.
Before I did it, I searched the web last night looking for forums and possible solutions. Unfortunately all i found was loads of stories concerning poor service from LG. Although it was good to hear the recorded LG message this morning.
Must be a signal thing on 9.
It happened just last night on channel nine...
very frustrating
.
What can i do about this?!
?!?
!
It would freeze on channel 9 digital transmissions and then turn it set off. This happened all of Sunday night. So clearly there is an issue with channel 9 conflicting with either hardware or firmware etc.
across various platforms
1 Unplug the power and coax (antenna) leads.
2.
plug the power lead back in only
4. Plug the coax lead back in again
5. Do another auto search tune again.
FIXED, until the next time...
:)
Fix as mentioned before.. "unplug the antenna cable, turn on the tv, switch to another channel then plug the antenna cable back in"
It has 2 yrs and is only some 7 mths old. - so I will watch the reader response to LG problem solving with interest.
In the last 4 months however Channel 9 has become unwatchable with freezes etc. All the other channels remain next to perfect.
Either all the high rises popping up in south eastern Sydney are blocking reception from Nine or they have done something to their transmission/encoding.
Model 32LCD2D - otherwise gives a great picture and sound, but something seriously awry in the software.
.. the second was brief, I quickly switched off at mains, then moved it off Channel 9 and onto 10.
Then it happened again about 3 nights ago.
Mine first froze when the Plasma was only a month old! You can imagine my delight?
? We bought ours from the Goodguys in Brighton and to-date they have been great..
. although, I'm not entirely convinced a LG replacement is going to fix the problem.
We shall see.
I could not get the V working until the next morning.
Its a joke that LG have this problem and we ought to be compensated as these goods are defective and LG know it.
They must be breaching law somewhere along the way.
Unplugging did not work for me so I left it to teh following morning and all was okay.
I switched the set off on at least 5 occasions, disconnected the power plug and antenna and did not get the TV to work again until yeasterday!!!
I have also been consistently losing channels and voice on most of the commercial stations for the past month - makes me wonder if the problems are related.
By the way the set is only 4 months old!!
!!!
They are listed in the story.
the only way to get any truth on any matter is through blogs like this.
Don't have a plasma yet, but I know for certain that their is absolutely NO WAY I'll get an LG one.
I'd already heard that their DVD recorders were crap, so bought a lite-on which is great.
Now I'll boycott their TV's as well.
This type of forum is the only thing these turkeys will listen to as there are thousands like me who take notice of what YOU say, not what their PR liars say.
Thanks again.
I had to wait for a different program to start before it was okay to use the TV (probably a good thing).
LG will need to fix the problem or replace all affected TV sets, I didn't pay that much for this to happen.
I made a dlunder to spent me money on LG
Have to unplug the power to get it turn back on (off button won't even work), then quickly change to another channel before it freezes again. I'm in Sydney.
Freezing happens regularly (almost every 2-3 days, particularly night programs). Not only channel 9 but also SBS. This morning tried to lodge a complaint thru customer service number given in SMH, but no answer
In the last week it has frozen two times. The first time was a weekday evening, we had to power down for about 15 minutes, and then the second time was Sunday Night, right when my favourite show started. It took 1 hour to resolve.
We are also in Brisbane.
Are you sure your clock is working right, seems a long time considering once power is cut at the mains?
Then watching other channels were all fine.
This was for a last 2 weeks in a row.
Gee did the retailer cop some abuse Monday morning and gee did I feel bad when I saw all the reports about it.
If the problem happens again I will be returning the unit.
Happened between 7.30pm and 8.30pm on sunday night and was on Ch90 at the time, and I live in Sydney.
Wasnt able to change channel or anything, only thing that worked on the remote was the on/off button.
Turned it off both with the remote and at the power point, but still didnt fix it.
Went to bed and it was ok in the morning.
First time its happened to me.
Alternatively you can get on the front foot and communicate with your customers and turn the whole thing into a win. Don't say it's only Syd Melb, it's Channel 9's fault etc. You only succeed in looking incompetent.
It's happened 3 times for me on Channel 9 and our TV is 6 months old.
If you hold the off button on your remote until the indicator light on your TV starts flashing it will turn off after about 5 seconds.
Then just unplug the antennae lead from the wall, turn your tv back on and change to another channel, plug the antennae back in, and away you go, just stay clear of 9 for a while.
I had to watch CSI on analogue for first time in ages on Sunday night!!
Wasnt impressed but it made me realise that people refusing to upgrade to digital are really missing out!!
Switched it off at the power point, pulled the power plug and aerial and all was well. Not happy though. When it first happened a few weeks ago, I rang the shop where I bought it and they told me it was a channel 9 problem spike, nothing to do with LG.
All digital set top box's have the same freezing problem what ever brand, very frustrating, and it's not only on channel nine.Until digital/transmission is fully sorted you'll always have the same prob's.
They are listed in the story.
All the listed model numbers are TVs.
.. from the front page blurb it is suggested that there are tvs AND settop boxs with an issue.
..
Ed: Apologies.
Meant to be LG TV with built-in digital tuners.
I've had no problems with my LG Plasma other than that though, and I'm not going to throw the brand in the bin just because a TV station is causing the issue.
I don't watch a heap of TV though so that might be why it hasn' occurred so much.
Hope they resolve the issue
LG 26LZ5RV, so it not only capitol citys
i returned it for a full refund, they replaced it for a similar Panasonic product that has worked perfectly.
First couple of times I had to leave the TV off overnight.
The 'quick' way to fix it I found is to unplug the TV and aerial, turn back on and change to another channel then turn off and plug aerial back in, then your away.
If I choose a standard definition version of Channel Nine, transmitting in stereo sound I don't have a problem. To resume watching I have to unplug the STB from the power point, wait a moment, plug it back in and change channel quickly.
My guess is that there is a problem with a particular type of signal processor, which when combined with Channel 9 Dolby Digital causes the processor to lock up.
An occasional glich isn't surprising at all to me, we just don't want it to happen to us.
I have no doubt that LG will do the right thing by their customers once they figure out what the problem is. You can bet that the techo's at channel Nine want to figure it out too, even if just for acedemic interest.
I look forward to hearing from LG when they have figured it out. For the record I have a few LG appliances and several LG PC's. Their gear is OK for me.
I am in Brisbane.
Still love the TV but want the problem identified and fixed.
Hopefully it is a prob with ch9- don't need to waste my time taking the TV back for repairs.
If anyone finds any solution, please let me know.
This is not an LG problem. This is a problem for the media supervisory authority.
I've just purchased an LG plasma and while I don't watch a lot of TV, I find these reports very disturbing. Sounds like a missmatch of LG Channel 9 i.e.
the way some software doesn't like Windows Vista etc. Will be interesting to follow developments..
.
It almost always happens on WIN/9, but I think I saw it happen on Prime as well.
It happened to me months ago, could not get the thing off channel nine after it froze. Was extremely annoying.
Then not long after that the TV screen started getting lines across it then it went red, then died and had to be fixed on warranty. So until today I thought it must have been linked to that problem. Now i am worried that if it happens again i might have to go through the nightmare that was the warranty claim which I have tried to summarise below.
Overall it took two months to get the thing fixed through warranty. After it went in for service the agent said it would be in for a maximum of two days. Then the wide range of stories started coming during the weekly calls to the service centre.
First reason was that there was a backlog from work built up over christmas.
Next the reason it was delayed was that there had been no technicians at the workshop for a couple of weeks.
Then the next reason was that one technician was sick in the previous weeks.
Then the delay was due to parts not being on time from LG.
By this time I did not talk to the service centre and only called LG. But then they blamed the service centre by saying they had not even ordered one of the required parts, however the service centre then said they already had it.
(sorry if this is confusing but this is as simple as i can put it all.)
Then in a call to LG they told me rather abruptly that it would be fixed that afternoon then they hung up on me.
Called service centre the next day only to be told it takes a week from the time the job is complete to the time it is delivered home.
(still have no idea why this is the case)
so we have only recently got the TV back.
So am very unimpressed with LG. I spent the extra for what I thought was a better brand and service but have been let down badly.
ps: When first trying to get the service centre to pick up the TV and start the job they put me onto there other office (stating i had called the wrong place). When i called the other office it became apparent that they only transferred me as their computer booking system was down and the office i was meant to deal with must have been to lazy to do a hand written logging of my job.
..
Pretty much everyone, broadcasters and manufactures were asking for a test centre to be created so that they could test hardware and signal compatibility.
Well the government obviously ignored this and now we have a the exact situation that a test centre would have prevented.
Well done to the Government. Way to screw things up.
Can't beleive this is happening to other people. I experience this all the time.
Even when I unpacked it when we bought or LG 81cm in early December.
Apologies if people have already said this but I don't have time to read the entire blog. When it freezes on 9 digital, the only way I can fix it is by switching off, unplug the aerial, switch back on, change to a different channel and then plug my aerial back in and not use channel 9 for the rest of the evening.
Except if I watch it on Analogue then it's fine.
Not sure of the number but it has a built in tuner.
Any news on a resolution yet?
?
However it is rather dissapointing that some people are pointing the figure at LG.
They make things attractive and affordable to the masses, there is nothing wrong with that!!
We should be asking Nine what they have changed over the last few weeks/months, before pointing the figure at an electronics company like LG.
By the way - I prefer SONY - The one and only!!!
My TV tuner card was because of this struggling to keep up with the stream.
I guess this is where LG should be looking at, probably has got something to do with the larger amounts of data coming in...
9 until this is fixed.
To recover I unplug the Aerial and switch off TV, turn back on again, change to another channel .
..and then avoid Channel 9 for the rest of the night!
!
My digital TV tuner is via a PC so the parts are hybrids.
I beleive its channel 9's problem.
This is a quick fix to get of the frozen channel 9.
It happens also when i use the remote control to skip through the channels. It doesn't respond to anything, no remote pressing, no pressing of the buttons on the STB. NOTHING.
Im highly dissapointed with LG and if i dont receive a replacement from them (as i have purchased it off ebay)i shall never purchase from LG again. And i know im not alone on this view, just search google and you will see alot of other highly dissapointed LG buyers. Might i add the terrible service from the call centre.
A software upgrade provided by the manufacturer resolved this issue.
Same problem changed the antenna cable to gold plated one. Even power off/ power code unplug is not working. You have to remove the antenna cable.
Oh, and by the way, I'm in Brisbane!
THis is not the only problem I've had with this unit...
.
No great loss now they don't have the AFL. Every other channel is fine.
There's no way that this is an LG problem, its a problem with the channel 9 data.
It also happened watching win news, i lost picture but still had sound.
Turned it off then on and everything was OK.
Never again shall I purchase an LG Product which ironically was the first Plasma brand a salesman directed us too.
I turned away no matter how attractive it looked.
I could change it too analouge then put it on a different station it worked fine on digital until I tried to put it on 9 again. It seams to hapen on sundays at 7.30.
When i reconnected the TV i stillhad a frozen picture. It took 12 hours to return to a normal picture. If its Channel 9s problem how come my Toshiba LCD that my Husband was watching on Channel 9at 7.
30 did'nt freeze?
It was a problem at times all weekend on NINE. I think its Nines problem, not LG.
!! The only fix is to turn the power off at the power point, wait 10 mins and try again.
Is anyone else having this problem with Toshiba??
it is an annoyance that should not be happening, and now we se that there are many models and numerous users suffering the same annoyance.
reading the article on LG they know about it, they should do something about rectifying the situation.
I initially thought I was experiencing radio (eg; CB Radio) interference but, after getting it checked out by the Govt. Radio Inspector, it came down to a prob with Ch9. At night, their signal strength drops a bit.
Originally it would present as RI, but since getting a SD Digital set top box, the signal drops in out or, partially scrambles the display.
As soon as I saw this article, I expected Ch9 to be the cause. Their biggest problem is - since they've been the "#1" network for ages, they've gotten a bit arrogant and "big for their boots".
Hopefully with Ch7 starting to take prominence, Nine might start doing right by it's viewers.
Pulled the aerial out, turned on, switched to another channel, then put the aerial in - all good.
I blame Channel9. I've had this TV for about 6 months, and have been very happy with it.
Great for everything - TV, 360, DVD's. This is the first time it's been a problem and only with Channel9. How's it LG's fault if Channel9 is sending out some unusual transmissions?
Ours locked at about 7.25pm Sunday night while watching 9HD. Seems to be a channel Nine problem to me.
The guys above slamming LG may be jumping the gun.
Also interesting is the fact that Ch 9 have been silent on the issue.
Then it happened again when 60 minutes came on this Sunday. It only seems to happen to my 50PC3D when they flick from digital braodcast to digital HD broadcast
and always on a Sunday night when Grey's and CSI is on. RRaaah, poo LG and channel 9!
Both times it was Sunday night.
The bottom line is the TV should not lock up no matter what signal you throw at it.
I hope they find the solution and supply a firmware/software update to fix this problem.
.
Next morning, however, it worked fine again.
I live near Brisbane and the plasma is a LG 42PC1DG.
So the key is - again - that a company gets big enough to decide for themselves if they could be bothered REALLY attending to their customers.
Watch it LG - if you get a bad reputation, it will follow you for YEARS!
I think it is an issue with chan9 and poor ol LG is the scape goat. kinda poor customer service though!
this has nothing to do with the tvs i realise. But the subtitles for the hearing impaired is all over the place on 9. And they won't bother to fix them up.
So there goes a mass migration of hearing impaired to other channels
Happened to me about a month ago for me when changing to channel 9. Unplugged everything but didn't rectify itself until the next day?
Rang LG and was told that it was a broadcast glitch and to unplug everything then replug.
Haven't had an issue since though.
My TV started freezing in September last year. Only on channel 9. It's a disgrace.
...
. Not very happy at all
Also the manul programming (skip stations) often resets itself when channel 70 is on SD making it frustrating when flicking through the stations.
My quick fix - unplug your antenna, change the channel, plug antenna back in, and watch some other channel.
I have never had a problem and always had a perfect picture.
Even on channel nine!
I guess big brand names at double the price are not always what they are made out to be..
.
This is not good enough for a TV that costs thousands !
There should be some compensation by LG or investigation by Dept of Fair Trading. People pay thousands so have high expectations.
I have an LG 32LC2D ...
and it's fabulous ...
except for the freezing nonsense when watching Channel 9!
Mind you, there's not really enough on 9 that I want to watch enough to be too concerned ..
. but if it happened to my viewing of the ABC or, god forbid, during Inspector Rex on SBS, there'd be hell to pay!
Maybe it's the TUNA inside the box that's the problem.
Ahem.
It effected my tv for about 30 minutes then was ok. Last night it froze again but only for a few moments
I believe it has nothing to do with the program that is being aired. It happens to mine often on all programs being aired on Channel 9. Mine is living proof it is not just LG.
Channel 9 often pixellates and freezes for a few seconds during the footy, usually when somebody kicks a goal (which is REALLY annoying).
I don't watch those shows and hardly ever watch FTA, so it doesn't bother me. My advice to all- ditch FTA and embrace Pay-TV (you can get Channel 9 on Foxtel anyway)
I blamed it on her inability to operate a remote control. I fixed eventually by switching the tv off at the mains and letting it cool down.
I also contacted LG by the web - so far have not heard a thing back.
Down here in Tazzie, channel Nines' digital TV signal is usually substandard with freezing, loss of picture etc. This occurs no matter what brand of TV with a built in digital tuner, or stand alone set top box is being used.
Medium to strong winds have a huge effect on the stability of Nines' digital TV signal.
Never again.
Guess that is what happens when we buy 'cheap' poor quality products.
The Samsung tv I have (rear projection) switches off constantly for no apparent reason and fails to turn on for a long time. It drives me insane. It seems to be a visible bug.
At least LG had the decency to let the public know, Samsung just try to cover it up!
Very disappointing SAMSUNG!
.it happened to me also. I had to unplug it too before being able to wathc again.
Arrrggghhh!
Only way to get another source to the tv was to keep the digital tv unplugged. Not overly impressed. Appears okay now.
I am in Sydney.
However i did not watch CSI on Sunday.
Lets hope i'm not affected by the problems that plaugue you guys.
! What's going on with that?!
My set top box just won't pick any signal for it at all now.
.which caused them to freeze when screening Nine Network's programs..
."
"It did not specify which programs, but a large number of readers have reported experiencing the glitch when watching CSI and Grey's Anatomy on Sunday night."
Grey's Anatomy airs on Channel 7.
I turned off the TV and unplugged the antenna which allowed me to change the channel away from channel 9. Every time I went back to 9 it would freeze again. Very annoying.
Hope it cranks up OK. Was that angry (only 2 weeks old) that I packed the plasma up ready to return the next day. Had to put the ever reliable CRT back on, but just doesn't quite cut it.
Don't care whose problem it is. All this finger-pointing is rubbish. You don't fork out a big wad of your hard-earned to have this happen.
Somebody, ANYBODY, please let's get it fixed!!!
Analogue ch9 worked fine, but the digital one crashed the TV. Had to unplug the antenna and power to fix it.
..
I blame Ch9 as well as LG.
Ch9 was broadcasting corrupt data, and LGs tuners weren't stable enough the handle the corrupt data. Both parties are guilty in my books.
Did anyone else notice that during the time period where the TV was crashing, the free TV guide channel (ch4 on my box) was listing Ch9's "now on" and "comming up" shows as "Information pending"?
Obviously the equipment that runs the free TV guide channel was having difficulties with Ch9's signal as well. I wonder if they use LG equipment? Anyone know who runs that channel?
why don't Nine or LG get together and replay what was transmitted? There must have been some signal that caused the tuner to go awry. In the end, even if it is a dodgy signal from nine, the tuner should be robust enough to handle it without freezing.
That's why I would blame LG (who probably got the tuner manufactured by some other company).
I don't think it is a good idea getting an all-in-one device, especially at the expense of a big plasma or LCD TV. This problem is a good example.
If either the TV or the Tuner goes bad you are in trouble. My suggestion: Buy a nice LCD, and use an external Tuner, at least until the price of LCDs come down or Digital Tuners become more mature as a technology.
Only way to get the tv back again, is turn the power off, disconnect the aerial, turn it back on and change to another channel, then plug the aerial back in again. After that, I pretty much have to wait until the show has finished before going back to that channel.
We all know how viewers feel about 9's bad programming of favourite shows...
what does it do when switched to Today?
It's ocurred several times since we bought our LG 42LC2D last Xmas. It froze on 90 HD(channel 9) and we were unable to change channels afterwards. It always takes overnight to work again, until then we can't continue to watch any channel at all which is very very frustrating and disruptive.
Last weekend it even came with a blow-up noise coming from inside the TV like exploding, which is so loud that I literally jupmed up with shock.
We are grimly concerned about this problem and hope LG address the issue with serious commitment.
I have a Sony CRT however and it is only Ch9 (broadbcast through Foxtel Digital) and is usually during live broadcasts of sporting events it always freezes up for a few seconds. Happens 3 or 4 times during a game of footy, when they are replaying tries etc. Pain in the butt.
Mainly channel 9, last week it kept freezing when the add for a movie came on, it froze 7 times in one night when the advert came on, drove me nuts. In the end I switched off the set top box at the main switch and re-booted it. That fixed the problem temporarily for a few days.
I personally think it has nothing to do with the TV but instead its the transmission of the actual channel, in this case channel 9.
I am just happy to hear I am not the only person with freezing issues, I thought I was alone and have been cursing my television fornothing.
The Unit we stayed in has LG TV's. It also happened back then when we where watching CSI. We thought it was 9 that was the problem but obviously not.
Lucky we don't own a LG at home.
We have to wait for an hour or so to get it working again.
. remember that dusty portable tv only worthy for the back of a kombi or a holiday house visited once a year - now they sell trendy TVs but the brand has a history of doing it on the cheap..
.
